Now over to something totally different. When it comes to fashion and trends Stockholm is special. There is kind of a Stockholm syndrome I would almost label it as. When a new trend hits the city it hits hard. It is kind of like a fashion tornado that sweeps across the city. You suddenly see it everywhere and in practically everyone. Last winter it was the knitted cap with furry top part that you could spot everywhere.
Now it is all about this knitted sweater with it's red and blue stripes. One could spot it already this summer but it has carried on into the fall season as well. The thing is I remember this sweater. It has been fashionable before and now it sort has a comeback revival. So if you want to feel trendy and Swedish this is what to wear right now.
I remember this episode from the book "Eat Pray Love", about how if you could read peoples thoughts as they were passing on the streets of any given place in the world that would then be the word of that particular city or place. In the book Liz has a friend that is Swedish and when she asks what the word of Stockholm is the answer is: CONFORM
I could't agree more on that. That really is true for Stockholm. If you don't conform this can really disturb some people. Stockholm is the Swedish capital and considered a big city but in some ways it really has a mentality of a small town. It is a very trendy city and people are very much into fashion here. I think that is great just that it gets kind of boring when everyone is wearing exactly the same kind of outfit or very similar ones. It is so easy to spot the latest trends going around in Stockholm. You just sit down at any café and do some people spotting for an hour and you will pick up the latest trends. When we just moved back last year I noticed how many Swedish men are into fashion and being trendy. It was actually hard to know if they were straight or gay and this can still be confusing to me sometimes when they are too trendy.
That trendy atmosphere also carries on into peoples homes. If you look at homes for sale on websites it is just as easy to pick up what the trends of interior design are. Most homes do look very similar. Very many have the same colors, furniture, lamps ect. All of that used to be more important to me before but now my mission is not to conform. I have things I like and wear what I like and I do not feel the need to stream line into what is hot right now.
