Baking is something that I find relaxing. When I come home on a Friday baking is something I sort of like to do to unwind after a busy week. I like baking both sweet stuff as well as bread. There are just some things I would not be willing to live without such as coffee and freshly baked bread.
Me and A made sourdough baguettes for midsummer. The recipe consisted of many steps. Most of the recipes in this book are not quick. Even if I have baking experience I would still say that this book is pretty advanced. Most of the recipes take more than one day to complete. The baguettes that we made took almost three days. But there are other recipes that don´t take that long. It is not always that you do have that amount of time. Even if the long recipes don´t keep you busy all the time they still require you to stay at home and close to the kitchen when you have to do the next step and the next step some 60 minutes here or 90 minutes there. But every once in a while it is worth it. But I do look forward to bake something from this book because there is so much in here that looks so yummy.
The book covers a lot. There is both bread as well as sweet bread and buns and crisp bread. Me and C did crisp bread in Alabama that turned out great. Here in Sweden we have not baked any so far. I guess we are spoiled by there being so many great kinds to choose from at the store.
Maybe I do have an American part in me after all. I bought a jar of peanut butter last weekend. Even if I would not classify myself as a big fan I must say I like a peanut butter sandwich sometimes. Last weekend I had a sandwich with peanut butter and slices of banana. I like that combination better than the classical peanut butter and jelly sandwiches. So maybe I still have to work on my American side some more before I get there.
Summer time is grilling time. I think we have used our grill almost every weekend so far. It still works fine, the grill we bought at Publix in 2006 that was on sale. Still going strong. Last weekend we made this fish kebab sticks with salmon, scallops, lime wedges and red onion. I made a dry rub for the salmon cubes with some brown sugar, salt, pepper, paprika powder, dry ginger and chili flakes. It worked out really well.
