Christmas is approaching fast. It almost seems unreal that it is Christmas week next week. It is as if everything speeds up even faster during these last weeks. The year is about to end and at work it is such a hurry to just squeeze in this last thing, last project, last sequencing run ect.
Today we are having the annual Christmas party and cleaning day at work. I guess the party is kind of the bribe. First you clean then you party. All the labs and office spaces will be dusted and wiped. Floors will be mopped. The kitchen will be shining and spotless (that kitchen sure needs it). Papers will be sorted and cleared out. I think it is pretty good to have a dedicated day to cleaning actually.
These are some pictures that I took last week. All the beautiful Christmas lights light up the neighborhood. Light is something that you are starving for now days. Days can pass when I don't get any light. I leave on my bike when it is pitch black outside and I return when it is this dark again. If I am lucky I may look up from my desk and for a quick moment realize that there is some fleeting moment of some light out there on the other side of the window. But there really can be days when I don't see the light, when I don't get to feel light on my face. Sun sets at 8:40 and sets at 2:30 (no I am not kidding). Enduring the dark winter season is hard.
I am done with the Christmas gifts. That feels great. I still need to wrap them but the main thing is they are selected and in place. Now I am off to clean the lab.
