Even if the weather was perhaps not the best we still got to enjoy a lot of Berlin's famous sights. We passed by the grand Olympic stadium that was built in the 1930:ties. We drove past the big round about with the angel statue in the middle.
In the mornings we walked to the bakery and bought fresh bread. Both me and C really fell for the pretzels. Kind of like bagels but with salt and shaped differently of course.
Rein and Gisela live in West Berlin but we did drive to East Berlin as well. One of the things that you find in East Berlin that is not found in West are trams. All the trams were removed from the West but kept in the East. So if you see tracks for trams it is a good sign that you are in the East. We also checked out this really cool painting that is done right on the wall of this house by one of Berlin' s famous painters. You got this picture of this huge ship that appears to just come out between the buildings. It is really very well made and does trick the eye. You almost want to walk up to the building wall and touch it to make sure it is not real. Very cool!
The Germans also are known for creating and liking some very special blends of beer and soda. They like to mix beer with Sprite for instance. I don't remember the name of that mix. It is perfectly normal to order a soda&beer mix. You can order what is known as "Disel" that is beer mixed with Coke. It sure looks like some kind of liquid motor oil.
We had time to visit the big and very fancy department store called KaDeWe. This is like Nordstrom in the States or like NK in Stockholm only bigger, better and a lot more fancy. There was a large section of just beautiful Christmas decorations.
Lot's of Christmas decorations and lights outside as well.
At the top floor of of KaDeWe there is a large food market section. Of course very fancy with lots of gourmet treats. You can find bottles of wine from every year and some very rare vintage bottles like this one from 1920 for 995 Euros.
We were told that Santa does not bring the Christmas gifts to the kids but instead Angels come with the Christmas gifts.
I just had to take a picture of this Calvin Klein shop window. They had actual people as models. They moved around changing poses and waving a little to people as they passed by on the street. I would say this sure catches your attention. They both had the most awesome and perfect bodies.
I would say we mananged to see and enjoy a lot of Berlin this Saturday as we also had been to the nice Christmas market earlier.

Vilken harlig resa ni fick. Berlin har jag aldrig varit i men en av mina kompisar har aker ofta och tycker valdigt mycket om det. Otroligt cool vaggmalning!
Jag kanner igen det dar med ol och korv som valdigt tyskt. I Bristol ar det varje ar en tysk julmarknad i centrum och dar festar engelsmannen loss pa just korv och ol :-).

Ni verkar haft en sådan härlig helg!!! Och ja det är vanligt att blanda öl med "läsk". När jag var liten minns jag att min mamma gjorde det till mig på jul också. Men då bara pyttelite julöl och mycket läsk haha! Men det tyckte jag var gott. Lite roligt det där med att blanda, för Österrikarna blandar ju gärna vin med t ex mineralvatten (gespritzel eller hur det nu stavas...?). Och DET är riktigt gott tycker jag. På sommaren speciellt! :-)
Husmålningen var ju helt fantastisk! Vad häftigt!!

Millan ,ja man får hoppas på att de inte frös allt för mycket de stackars modellerna. Korv och öl är verkligen det som gäller i Tyskland. Jag är tyvärr inte ett stort fan av varken eller. Men det finns ju mycket annat också.

Annika, ja jag var också övertygad om att det var tomten som gällde i nästan hela Europa men faster Gisela berättade att det var änglar som kommer vilket är jättefint det också. Vi hann med en hel del och det gjorde oss inte alls mycket att vädret inte var jättebra.

Saltis, ja vin med mineralvatten tycker jag är riktigt gott och läskande. Det blandar tyskarna gärna också och jag beställde just denna mix då vi var där. Väldigt bra om man har en lång kväll framför sig och inte vill få i sig allt för mycket vin . Öl och läsk däremot låter som en märkligare kombination. Det kanske är gott och också ett bra sätt att dryga ut ölen så att man inte får i sig för mycket. Det var kul att få ta del av sådana här lokala fenomen.
